Clan Discussion / MPs get £10,000 pay rise The Sun NewsPolitics
« on: November 05, 2013, 06:10:30 am »
MPs’ pay is going up by one per cent this year and next after being frozen since April 2011.
The Sun revealed yesterday that Mr Bercow has taken his one per cent rise despite the PM and ministers waiving theirs.
Their taxpayer-funded salaries will rocket from ?65,Tods Shoes Sale,738 to more than ?75,Prada Handbags,000 under plans drawn up by the Commons expenses watchdog.
But the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority is expected to set the rise at ?10,000 to minimise public anger.
MPs are set for a huge ?10,UGG Sale,000 pay rise — while hard-up families suffer pay freezes and layoffs.
TaxPayers’ Alliance boss Matthew Sinclair said: “MPs already enjoy salaries most hard-working Sun readers can only dream of.”
Commons Speaker John Bercow has been pushing for a better deal for MPs. He warned in January that backbenchers “resent” moves by rich party leaders like David Cameron to block pay rises.
Some even demanded ?100,000 to put them level with GPs and council bosses.
The move to hand MPs a salary nearly TRIPLE the national average of ?26,North Face Australia,500 would be offset by cuts to pensions and expenses.
It is set to approve the hike — to come in after the 2015 General Election — in June.
A survey in January revealed MPs want their salaries to soar by a third to more than ?86,Prada Clothing,000.

3 Spoon into eight well-greased 200ml ramekins (no more than two-thirds full to allow space for the mixture to rise in the oven). Set the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake for about 20 minutes until firm when pressed in the centre,Louboutin Sale.
2 Beat the soft butter with the sugar until light and fluffy. Gradually add the egg, beating well after each addition. Sieve the flour with the baking powder, then gently fold into the mixture in three batches with a large metal spoon. Stir in the dates and their liquid to make a thick batter-like mixture.
Who is your food inspiration?
What’s your favourite ingredient?
Chilli. I like things so hot they make my nose run and I start sweating. That’s not very ladylike, is it?
GREAT BRITISH BAKE-OFF’S STICKY TOFFEE PUDDINGS
My mum Susan and her twin, Aunt Helen,Prada Outlet, are the best cooks – they run a church cafe in Crawley. If my mum had auditioned for TGBBO she’d have got my spot.
The Peanut Butter Cup Pie I made in the American Pie round. It taught me never to cook things you don’t eat yourself. I hate peanut butter but had tried the pie on people and they said it was nice... maybe they were lying.

The atmosphere in The Great British Bake Off tent always seems very tense – what’s it like to be a contestant in there?
Which three people, dead or alive, would you invite to a dinner party?
Taste everything as you go,Tods Handbags. My husband always puts salt and pepper on before he’s tried things and it does annoy me.
FOR THE SAUCE
1 Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F/gas mark 4. Put the chopped dates and bicarbonate of soda into a heatproof bowl and pour over the boiling water. Stir well, then leave to cool for about 20 minutes until lukewarm.
I can eat gherkins non-stop,North Face Australia, which everyone thinks is disgusting. And I can’t buy Nutella because I’ll eat it from the jar with a spoon...

What’s been your biggest disaster of the series,Genuine UGG?

What’s your No.1 cooking tip?
It can get on top of you and make you reach breakdown point. It’s a good thing Mel and Sue are so funny all the time, and not just during filming. I was almost crying making a gingerbread structure and Sue said: “Er, it is just a gingerbread house,” and that put it in perspective.

General Discussion / TEN MILLION GALLONS
« on: November 02, 2013, 06:37:07 am »
All are scaled down for the little people, who get to try their hand at 80 different jobs and earn KidZos (the official currency of KidZania) for their efforts.
Three nights’ B&B at 4 Hilton Dubai Jumeirah Residences is from ?845pp incl. flights from Heathrow with Emirates and private car transfers. Call 020 7590 1461 or visit .
Bear with me if all these numbers are giving you a headache — but there are also the 33,000 living animals from 85 different species to take in, including more than 400 sharks and rays.
Not my 12-year-old’s normal reply when I ask if she wants to go to the beach — but then this is Dubai.
Arabian Adventures’ Desert Safari gave us a chance to change the pace and see some of nature’s marvels.
These fabulous hotel apartments are perfect for families — two,Louboutin Sale, three and even four-bed with full-size kitchens,UGG Boots Cheap, lounges and dining rooms for those who want to save a bob or two and self-cater.
But for my two this made the experience even more authentic and, after four hours, we had to literally drag them away.
And here at KidZania it is the CHILD who is in charge.
Dubai through the eyes of a cynical travel journalist may still have its challenges.
Go: Dubai
Here we visited the hotel’s AquaAdventure water park. Open to all, this,Tods Shoes Sale, just like the rest of Dubai, is off the scale. Acres of lazy rivers, rides and up-close encounters.
While we may have been enjoying the experience with some 300 other tourists it was extremely well done, the food was plentiful and tasty and the kids adored the chance to ride a camel and meet the birds of prey.
Donning diving helmets, anyone over the age of eight can, on the Shark Safari, descend into the depths and meet the critters.
EMIRATES run 112 direct flights a week from the UK to Dubai – from Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle and Glasgow. See .
Ben washed skyscraper windows from a hanging cradle while Abbi donned overalls to paint walls. Then there were fires to put out, surgical operations to perform and clothes to design.
But don’t miss the lake at ground level — the world’s largest dancing fountains perform every half hour from 6pm daily, water jets shooting 500ft up into the air.
We’d started the day at the top of the world’s tallest building, the 2,Prada Clothing,717ft Burj Khalifa. This 160-storey megalith is an engineering marvel and the slick At The Top experience sees you soar by elevator at ten metres a second toward the observation platform on the 124th floor.
With so much to see and do, it was a relief at the end of a busy day to return to the Hilton Jumeirah Residences — our home from home. Well, if we’d won the lottery.
And they can spend their hard-earned KidZos on everything from toys to sweets. From the moment my normally too-cool-for-school tweenagers collected their KidZo pay packet from the HSBC Bank they were hooked. We were banished as they tried everything from flying an Emirates plane to presenting the daily KidZania news in a pukka studio.
A TV exec would have had a heart attack over the product placements — youngsters can work in a Coca-Cola plant, McDonald’s restaurant, Baskin Robbins ice-cream store or Waitrose supermarket.
But for my kids,Prada Handbags, blown away by the amazing experiences they could enjoy in a safe, slick environment, it was paradise.
But the Residences still come with all the bells and whistles of a full-service hotel and, with its own stretch of beach as well as pools, it is the perfect base.
And from here it was a short stroll to the Dubai Mall — home not just to KidZania and hundreds of high-end stores but also the Aquarium — where a tank holding TEN MILLION GALLONS of water features the world’s largest viewing panel, 32.8 metres wide and 8.3 metres high.
Or feed huge stingrays — minus their barbs, of course, but still very hungry for the shrimp snacks that you can tempt them with. My tweenagers were, of course, also up for the Leap of Faith — an insane ride that catapults you down an almost vertical 27.5metre-tall slide, through a transparent tunnel and into a shark-filled lagoon.
The trip, by four-wheel-drive vehicle, sees you travel out to a conservation reserve for thrilling dune-driving before watching the sun set over the sands and enjoying a feast and belly-dancing in an authentic Bedouin camp.
But while the kids were living out their every fantasy in Dubai, I felt a need to connect them with the place’s roots — just 30 years ago it was a small fishing village on the shores of the Arabian Gulf.
Arabian Adventures tours, including the Desert Safari, with dune drive and BBQ, from ?60pp. See  or call 00971 4303 4888.
In this pint-size town inside the Dubai Mall streets are lined with shops, offices, factories, a town hall, race track and airport.
As we headed into the clear tunnels for an up-close view of those sharks, Ben said: “I want to touch one!” And of course, here in the dreamworld that is Dubai, he could. Later, we made our way to the colossal pink confection that is the Atlantis hotel on The Palm — the man-made island shaped like a tropical tree.
“GO away, Mum! I’ve not done my pilot training and I want to pay my wages into the bank.”
Yet in Dubai there is so much more for kids to explore — although the tiny United Arab Emirate sells itself as the ultimate adult playground.

Guides / Video: Wembley last chance for Zaha
« on: October 31, 2013, 05:28:44 am »
“I said to him ‘everyone in the stadium from Watford will be fearing you, so don’t disappoint them.’
Zaha,North Face 100 Australia, the two-goal hero in Palace’s semi-final second-leg win at Brighton on Monday, begins his Manchester United career next season following a ?15million January deal.
“We know we have got match-winners in our team — Wilf is just one of them.”
“If he keeps doing that, he can score every week. He is learning still but he is an unbelievable player.
IAN HOLLOWAY will get a war chest of up to ?40million if Crystal Palace are promoted to the Premier League.
And crocked 30-goal Murray, who suffered cruciate ligament damage in the first leg at Selhurst Park, is sidelined for between six to 12 months.
“He has got pace to burn and so much skill. If he gambles more in the box like he did for his first against Brighton, he will score plenty of goals.
Video: Wembley last chance for Zaha
Parish hailed England winger Zaha,North Face Australia, 20, who was immediately loaned back after becoming Alex Ferguson’s last big signing at Old Trafford.
“I’m absolutely convinced we would be as ready as anybody.
Wilbraham, who played in the Prem with Norwich, said: “Watford will be fearing him.
The Eagles have big boots to fill in Wilfried Zaha and Glenn Murray.
“You can see he’s been here since he was nine, you can see what it means to him because it wasn’t just his skills at Brighton,Prada Outlet, it was the work rate.”
“If we can’t spend half of that and have a good go, and spend the other half on the infrastructure of the club so that if we did come down we’ve got an even better chance of staying up the next time,North Face 100 Australia, there’d have to be something wrong.
“If he plays like that in the final, he could be the key. We need our big players to turn up and Wilf is definitely that for us.”
“We’ve seen Norwich and Southampton go up and keep the nucleus of their squads, then add to it, and do very well. And we’ve got a manager who’s been there.”
Palace will return to the top flight after eight years if they can overcome Gianfranco Zola’s Watford in the Championship final at Wembley on May 27.
He added: “I’ve never seen a kid that’s on loan from the Premier League work like that.

“He is still young. Kevin Phillips and I were talking to him after the game about gambling in the box.
Palace captain Mile Jedinak added: “Wilf was quite special against Brighton and I am really happy for the kid because he gives his all for this club,Genuine UGG.
Co-chairman Steve Parish said: “What would promotion mean? In the current stadium over just the one season you are probably looking at probably a ?70-80m boost in revenue, which is massive.
Aaron Wilbraham, who stepped in for Murray at The Amex, has told Zaha he can sign off his Eagles career by leaving the Hornets running scared at Wembley.

Introductions / Ancient arena
« on: October 31, 2013, 05:26:31 am »
Spectators flocked to the Hippodrome to see around 40 chariots,Tods Shoes, each pulled by four horses, charge chaotically up and down the stadium. Injuries and deaths were common.
Introduced at the 33rd Olympiad in 648BC, pankration (meaning “all strength”) combined boxing and wrestling and is best described as an early version of martial arts.
It was more than 1,400 years before the site of the Games would be excavated, fuelling interest in a revival of the Olympics.
How Games survived for centuries, courtesy
The first 13 Olympics, which were held every four years, featured just one main event, the stadion race, a sprint up one length of the stadium, probably around 180metres.
His ideas led to the establishment of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The pentathlon soon became a regular event too, testing athletes’ skills in wrestling, stadion, long jump, javelin and discus.
Boxing, wrestling (Milo of Croton won the event six times) and pankration all became the most anticipated events.
Grand festivals celebrating both religion and sport, with which the Ancient Greeks were obsessed, served the purpose well.
Olympia is about 95 miles west of Athens on a vast peninsula in the Peloponnesian region. The Olympic Games were centred around a magnificent temple dedicated to Zeus, the supreme Greek god.
Destruction of all pagan temples, including the statue of Zeus in AD 426, consigned the Olympics to history.
THE ancient Olympics thrived for more than 1,000 years.
They began in the Greek city of Olympia in 776BC – and were the inspiration for the modern Games 2,Christian Louboutin UK,672 years later.
Coubertin became its general secretary and saw his dream realised when the first modern Olympics opened on April 6th, 1896, in Athens.
Worshippers had flocked to the temple, created by the sculptor Phidias, for decades, but leaders of the new “polis” (city-states) were keen to up the ante and assert their supremacy over rival cities.
Chariot racing was introduced in 680BC.
READ ABOUT THE MODERN OLYMPICS
More and more events were added, rising to about 12 in total.
In June 1894, a French baron named Pierre de Coubertin organised an international congress at the Sorbonne university in Paris to drum up support for a new Games.
Dioxippus – a friend of Alexander the Great – won the event so many times and was so feared that in 336BC he was crowned champion by default because no one would challenge him.
The ancient Olympics were last held in 393AD when the Roman Emperor Theodosius the Great,The North Face 100 Australia, who had converted to Christianity, banned all pagan festivals.
But the grand finale of the games was a gruelling warriors’ race – about 750 metres in helmets and armour.
They became common throughout Greece and were also seen as a useful way of getting men fit for military duty.
