<p>Liverpool stalwart Jamie Carragher believes fellow Anfield favourite Steven Gerrard is the obvious choice as England captain.</p><p>The former England defender thinks the man who captain&rsquo;s Kenny Dalglish&rsquo;s team has all the necessary traits that are required to do the job.</p><p>The case for who should wear the three lions armband was opened after the FA stripped Chelsea&rsquo;s John Terry of the responsibility last week in light of the court case hanging over his head and Carragher felt they needn&rsquo;t look further.</p><p>&ldquo;Steven Gerrard is the stand-out captain, and that's not a biased verdict,&rdquo; Carragher is quoted as saying on the official Liverpool website.</p><p>The 34-year-old was keen on stressing the experience Gerrard has of playing a captain&rsquo;s role and the prestigious way he has done so for Liverpool for a number of years.</p><p>&ldquo;He's been the captain of Liverpool for probably a decade. He's captained in Champions League finals, Europe, big Premier League games,&rdquo; he added.</p><p>&ldquo;He's also captained England in the last World Cup and he's one of England's best players. For me, I don't think there's a debate.&rdquo;</p><p>Gerrard is just one of the candidates being mentioned as possible successors to Terry, but he is maybe the name on most people&rsquo;s list</p><p>Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Scott Parker is another who has been hotly tipped as the man who should lead the England side at Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine.</p><p>However, Carragher is not interested in any other candidates and is adamant his team-mate deserves to be the main man under the next national team manager.</p><p>&ldquo;It should be Steven Gerrard without a shadow of a doubt.&rdquo;</p>
