MPs get £10,000 pay rise The Sun NewsPolitics
« on: November 05, 2013, 06:10:30 am »
MPs’ pay is going up by one per cent this year and next after being frozen since April 2011.
The Sun revealed yesterday that Mr Bercow has taken his one per cent rise despite the PM and ministers waiving theirs.
Their taxpayer-funded salaries will rocket from ?65,Tods Shoes Sale,738 to more than ?75,Prada Handbags,000 under plans drawn up by the Commons expenses watchdog.
But the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority is expected to set the rise at ?10,000 to minimise public anger.
MPs are set for a huge ?10,UGG Sale,000 pay rise — while hard-up families suffer pay freezes and layoffs.
TaxPayers’ Alliance boss Matthew Sinclair said: “MPs already enjoy salaries most hard-working Sun readers can only dream of.”
Commons Speaker John Bercow has been pushing for a better deal for MPs. He warned in January that backbenchers “resent” moves by rich party leaders like David Cameron to block pay rises.
Some even demanded ?100,000 to put them level with GPs and council bosses.
The move to hand MPs a salary nearly TRIPLE the national average of ?26,North Face Australia,500 would be offset by cuts to pensions and expenses.
It is set to approve the hike — to come in after the 2015 General Election — in June.
A survey in January revealed MPs want their salaries to soar by a third to more than ?86,Prada Clothing,000.
