Overview,ラルフローレン 激安When the Star Wars movies first hit, they created a tidal wave of associated products: toys, games, puzzles, t-shirts and countless other pieces of pop culture paraphernalia. Over the years, many of these products have become valued collector's items, and fans continue to scour sites like eBay in search of elusive collectibles.  The sheer volume of different kinds of collectibles could fill an entire book, but some of the most noted types fall into a few basic categories.Action FiguresOne of the most popular types of Star Wars collectibles is the series of action figures first produced by Kenner in 1977 and later revived by Hasbro. Kenner originally designed the figures to be 3.75 inches tall--smaller than most dolls at the time--which let them sell the toys more cheaply and allowed children to buy them with their allowance money.  They discontinued the line in the mid-1980s, but Hasbro revived them a decade later and they continue to be produced as of 2009.CardsTopps, Inc. produced a wide array of Star Wars collectible cards:  featuring stills from the movies,ラルフローレン サングラス, concept art and similar imagery printed on cardboard and sold in packets like baseball cards. Five series of 66 cards apiece (plus gum and stickers) were marketed in 1977,ラルフローレン 通販,  with another four series coming out in 1980 for "Empire," and two series released in 1983 for "Jedi." Topps began production of a new series of collectible cards in 1993, and kept them in production throughout the second trilogy (1999 to 2005) and beyond. Additional sets were produced by companies such as Kellogg's for promotional purposes.ComicsMarvel Comics produced a run of 107 Star Wars comic books, starting in 1977. The books covered the events of the first films, as well as new adventures of the characters featured in the movies. Dark Horse Comics revived the line in 1991 with their enormously successful "Dark Empire" series. More comics were produced starting in 1999, in order to capitalize on the release of the second trilogy.Statues and MaquettesThe Star Wars phenomenon has produced an extended series of statues,プラダ トート, figurines and maquettes for sale. They depict various characters and scenes from the Star Wars universe. Unlike the action figures, they don't move, but they're often much larger and considerable effort is invested in the details of each figure. They retail for hundreds of dollars and the most expensive ones can fetch many times that amount.Plates,Ralph Lauren シャツ, Models and Other CollectiblesThe Hamilton Collection created a series of Star Wars commemorative plates in the 1980s and 1990s, covering characters and events from the movies. Other companies have produced mugs, keychains, chess sets, cookie jars and just about every type of product imaginable. Like the statues, cards, comics and action figures, the price for these items depends on their relative rarity and the price collectors are willing to pay.

Donations / ラルフローレン スウェット The Walking Dead
« on: November 01, 2013, 12:29:17 am »
It’s also an object lesson in cable programming in general,ラルフローレン スウェット, which has rushed after HBO in an ungainly heap in the last few years. Basic and premium stations now covet high-profile original series – some of them incredible loss leaders that exist only to make the station look good. It’s spearheaded a new Golden Age in television,ラルフローレン 通販, with the likes of Justified,レイバン 店舗, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead becoming major cultural talking points (to say nothing of HBO’s Emmy-laden schedule). Starz has struggled to make a lasting impression in that market,レイバン Wayfarer, as it swaps through new shows with disturbing regularity. Their willingness to keep trying – even with BBC imports – indicates the new Pravda in television: you can’t get by on movies alone. The White Queen doesn’t suggest anything new or groundbreaking,Rayban 眼鏡, but the fervor with which Starz is pushing it emphasizes the importance of having something – anything – distinctive in order to set themselves apart from the pack.

Well, Go Nagai started it all with Mazinger Z's[/i] Aphrodite A and Diana A (piloted by Sayaka Yumi). This doesn't surprise me since Go Nagai started a great many thing in anime/manga history. I'm pretty sure a female robot or two has shown in his works since then,レイバン Wayfarer. There is also the Mazinger Angels[/i] manga that features a take on the Charlies Angels[/i] with an all female cast of pilots and robots,Ralph Lauren シャツ. GaoGaiGar FINAL[/i] featured KoRyu and AnRyu as two female robots who join the GGG team. Even when they combine, they are obviously feminine. There is another instance I can recall in G Gundam[/i] where there is a robot in Sailor Fuku, but I honestly can't recall the pilot. There were a ton of wild mecha in that show (Windmill Gundam anyone?). Finally, the one that sticks out in my mind is Arcee from Transformers: The Movie[/i]. As a kid,ラルフローレン 通販, my mind was blown. She would be one of several that would show in the Transformers[/i] franchise going forward (including Ariel, Optimus Prime's girlfriend,レイバン フレーム...why do I know this,Rayban サングラス?!?).

Naruto Unleashed Set 1.1  By                 September 01, 2006
          Release Date: August 21, 2006

What They SayUzumaki Naruto is a lonesome young boy from the Hidden Leaf Village, a town with several young ninjas-in-training who aspire to reach the village's one-of-a-kind highest ninja rank, the Hokage. Naruto is treated as an outcast by the rest of the village ever since a deadly fox-demon was sealed inside him when he was a baby. He now has a penchant for mischief but all Naruto really wants is some attention and respect. Accompanied by his secret crush Sakura, his skilled rival Sasuke, and his mentor Kakashi, Naruto will have to overcome many challenges as he comes of age and pursues his dream of becoming the Hokage. The Naruto anime is adapted from the extremely popular Naruto manga series, created by Masashi Kishimoto, which has sold in excess of 59 million copies in its native Japan.Featuring episodes 1 to 13!The Review! The biggest phenomenon in anime since Pokemon comes to the UK with a blast.Audio:I watched the first two discs with the Japanese stereo track, and the last disc with the English 5.1 track. I noticed no dropouts or distortions on either track during regular playback. I listened to the stereo track for the Japanese as this is the original version, with the 5.1 and DTS tracks being Manga's own up-mixes from the stereo track. The English tracks are much the same, and the only real difference with the 5.1 track seemed to be the addition of a bit of volume and base. The dub, produced for TV but not really toned down a great deal (thus far) is actually thoroughly enjoyable. Some of the performances are really good, with the voice actors for the main kids all coming across very well. The actor that plays Kakashi does sound a little camp at times, especially compared to the nonchalant sound of the Japanese actor, but overall I enjoyed both tracks very much.Video:The video is presented full-screen and looks really nice. Colours are vibrant and well reproduced, and I didn't notice any aliasing or other artifacting. Ghosting was also unnoticeable during playback on my television. For this release the openings and endings are presented in their original, untouched Japanese kanji form. It's nice to get this for a TV show aimed at a young audience, but even better is there is a fully translated credit scroll after each episode (there are actually two, one with basic credits and then one with full credits that seem to be produced by Manga).Like most Manga releases, this one comes with standard white subtitles with a black border. For the most part they're very good, although there are a few inconsistencies at times between episodes in how they translate certain terms. Also, a rather ridiculous error is the constant mis-spelling of the word sensei as "Sensi" over several episodes. Given the term is well known in this country even though it is foreign, I find it hard to believe this slipped through the cracks.Packaging: Again, much like other Manga releases, this one features a slipcover over a standard sized keepcase. The slipcover is black with a colour image of Naruto on the left, and an embossed outline of him on the right along with the show's logo and some promotional text. The back cover is your standard screenshot, summary and technical info mix, presented quite clearly. The keepcase itself also features Naruto on the cover with a more colourful background, and the case itself is a stacked kind, in that all three discs stack one on top of the other (but don't actually touch). This is actually a fantastic idea because it really helps save space for such a long show. Also in the case is a storyboard booklet that is full colour and features plot summaries of all 13 episodes as well as a few pages of storyboards. It would have been nice to get a bit more of them, but this is still nice.Menu:The menus are really well done and fit the style of the show perfectly. The main menu loops through the characters as they move across the screen before coming up in a group shot, while the selections are static at the bottom of the screen and the opening theme of the edited version plays over the menu. Sub-menus are all in a similar style, some with a bit of movement and music and others static, but they're all in the same theme and easy to access. I was really impressed with the menus here, especially given a couple of recent Manga series haven't been the best.Extras: This set is pretty bare on extras, with only a textless opening and ending, and one of the most strange "Manga to anime" comparison features I've seen, mostly because it doesn't actually feature manga shots but just seems to go to still backgrounds. It's a nice inclusion, even if I don't have any clue what the point of it is.Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)Really, what anime fan hasn't heard of Naruto? It's the biggest phenomenon in anime this century by a long way, and is the first series since Pokemon to gain such heavy mainstream support. Its growth started underground and, by the time it was licensed by Viz Media in the US, it had already become a license to print money and since airing on TV there and elsewhere it has been a worldwide smash, and its easy to see why. The mainstream appeal of the series makes it extremely accessible, and it's something that will appeal to the younger audience as well as the older, because it has a bit of backbone and depth that some series of a similar pedigree don't have. Here in the UK there was always a question of what would happen to the series and if it'd be licensed due to costs and all the rest, but sure enough here it is, in its original, uncut form with both the uncut dub and the original Japanese soundtrack. It also coincides nicely with the TV airing on Jetix that started just in time for the school holidays, and it will surely be lapped up by fans who have enjoyed the airing but would like to see the original form of what has become a bit of a hack job (understandably though, because the channel is aimed at a younger audience). The premise of Naruto is quite simple, but that's why it's a series that could effectively go on forever with an open-ended quest until the time comes when the original author or animators decide to draw it to a close. The story focuses on a young boy called Uzumaki Naruto. He's renowned throughout his village as a complete rebel with few friends, and he is sometimes picked on by the other children (not that he stands for any of it, mind you). The adults of the village all know about Naruto's past though; he was once a legendary nine-tailed fox but was sealed up by the Hokage (the village leader and uber-ninja) several years ago in the body of a young boy, something that is forbidden to be spoke about within the village.Despite being a rebel in part because he has no family or anything, Naruto is quite ambitious and one day wants to become the ultimate ninja  " the Hokage  " himself. He's got quite a way to go though,プラダ 通販, since at school while he has potential he rarely makes use of it the right way, instead opting to get into trouble with his teacher Iruka. Naruto and Iruka have an interesting relationship, with Iruka acting almost as an older brother/father type role, someone who Naruto can rely on even if he doesn't realise it. The first episode shows this plain as day when a ninja steals some sacred scrolls from the village that Naruto had been looking at, and forces a showdown with both Naruto and Iruka, with the latter putting his life on the line to protect the young one. After the first episode, the episodes presented in this box set can be pretty much split into two arcs. The next four episodes or so deal with the rest of the main cast introductions as Naruto and his classmates embark on the ninja training entrance exam. Naruto is paired in a group of three with a girl called Sakura, who he's long had a crush on but isn't to keen on him, and Sasuke, another rebellious and brooding type of character and also the unwanting object of Sakura's affection. Their trainer for the exam is a somewhat legendary ninja called Kakashi, who has never once passed a student. He tries to get the group of kids to work together in order to pass their exams, which is the inevitable outcome given that the series goes on for some time, but it's by no means easy for the cast. With the exams out the way, we follow the kids on their biggest mission so far, as they are asked to protect a man who is building a bridge in a nearby village, but what begins as a straightforward guarding mission soon turns a lot more sinister when the group are attacked by a renowned ninja from the village of the hidden mist. This leads to a lengthy battle that sees both Kakashi and the ninja, Zabuza, injured, but it's not too long after some downtime in which Naruto and crew get to know the locals and embark on more training that they face off against Zabuza again and feel the wrath of the man behind him.Sounds like your typical action series aimed at younger boys, right? Well, that's exactly what it is but what makes Naruto stand out amongst the crowd is the style and execution. It's a very slick production, which is noticeable in most aspects of series from the animation (which is good at this stage) to the character designs, right through to the music and general look and feel. Likewise, while the story isn't too original in the grand scheme of things, it is executed very well and author Masashi Kishimoto knows exactly how to play to its strengths, mixing both comedy and drama extremely well.As with a lot of shows, the characters are what stand out in Naruto and really make it shine above a lot of similar series. Although he can be a brat at times, Naruto is an excellent lead who is easy to relate to and get behind, given that we know his past and the troubles he's had growing up, and we are always shown enough honourable intentions in him to know that he's a good guy at heart. Sasuke is a typical rival, but instead of them always being at odds no matter what,ポロラルフローレン, often the pair are forced to work together and do so extremely well, as we see in the first fight with Zabuza. The banter between the two will always be funny because of their competitiveness, but it's good to see the group come together when they need to. Sakura is an interesting character to throw into the mix, but aside from just helping keep the genders a bit more balanced she is shown at times to be more intelligent and useful than both the boys, like during the tree training, which is a good thing to see. Kakashi completes the core cast that populates most of the episodes, and is a hilarious character in that sometimes he doesn't seem all that bothered about things and yet is so masterful of his craft. He also knows exactly how to play up to all the kids to get the best out of them and his presence in the series is much needed, even just for the experience he brings to the table. The supporting cast like Iruka and the Hokage all work really well especially given their interactions with Naruto, and the story arc-specific characters introduced through these episodes work really well. There's some great action throughout these first thirteen episodes, but naturally given the series is so long and still ongoing (at over 200 episodes in Japan now) we are just scratching the surface here, and one of my few complaints I could possibly levy at this set is that it's over just as it's really getting started and the story is kicking in. Nevertheless, it's a great ride so far and I really enjoyed just kicking back and watching this set. You might not have to think too hard for the most part but the series is really engaging and entertaining all the way.In Summary: Like most shows of a similar nature, Naruto is something you will most likely either love or hate, and it shouldn't take you more than a few episodes to figure out which side you'll fall in to. The series is set up to continue for a long time and sure enough that's exactly what has happened, and though the length may be hard to get past for some people, it's difficult to find fault with the release as it stands,ラルフローレン 通販, as you couldn't ask for much more than a series of boxsets to give us chunks of the show at a time. If you hate this sort of boys' action show then Naruto probably isn't going to change your opinion, even if it is one of the best examples around, but if you do like it or aren't sure,レイバン ウェイファーラー, you'd do well to pick up this box set which represents very good value and then you can see what you're missing out on. I'm a bit partial to a good series like this every now and then, so I give Naruto a heartfelt recommendation.FeaturesJapanese Language (2.0; 5.1; DTS),English Language (2.0; 5.1; DTS),English Subtitles,Textless Opening and Ending,ラルフローレン シャツ,Naruto  " From Manga to Anime,Storyboard BookletReview EquipmentPhilips 28" Pure Flat Widescreen TV, Pioneer DV-464 code free DVD player, JVC gold-plated RGB SCART cable, standard stereo sound.

« on: October 30, 2013, 11:00:42 pm »
Chuck Francisco is a columnist and critic for Mania, writing Wednesday's Shock-O-Rama, the weekly look into classic cult, horror and sci-fi. He is a co-curator of several repertoire film series at the world famousin Phoenixville, PA. You can hear him drop nerd knowledge on weekly podcastor think him a fool of a Took on.
Cultural divide is rearing its head as a central theme to Defiance. Respect for the deeply held beliefs of others wages brutal combat with the shock and outrage of modern sensibilities. Culled directly from our current, real world headlines,プラダ 通販, this is where a new, bold science fiction show can truly cement its cultural legacy. Let's hope that Defiance can stick the landing, while continuing to engage an audience ravenously hungry for the throwback style scifi show that we've been missing.
McCawley and Nolan find a quiet moment while exploring Old St,レイバン 店舗. Louis which allows them to bond over the past and open up about the present. Grant Bowler impresses in this nice little scene. He gave the grumpy and hardened McCawley the exact level of prodding needed to force his petals open; though he still wouldn't sing his grandfather's dog food jingle (there's got to be a line somewhere and that's where Rafe draws it).
There were a good number of these moments, but none had quite the gravitas of the diner scene shared between Stahma Tarr and Christie McCawley. Manipulative mother meets naive daughter-in-law to be, initiating a heart to heart as a means of reassuring the younger woman of the righteousness of her impending nuptials. The delightful nuance of this scene comes from we the audience knowing that Stahma has only the foulest of intentions; she is ensuring the wedding to cement the power base of her husband. Jaime Murray turns up the charm, fogging the truth in a way Warehouse 13 fans have come to love and loathe her for. She makes situations unpredictable and fun. Nowhere else has composer Bear McCreary's influence been felt as strongly as in the pauses during this exchange; he impregnates them with subtle meaning that deepens the exchange.
After the rush of world building, then the crash and din of battle we were treated to last week, Defiance slows its roll a bit to develop its characters. Yes,Rayban 眼鏡, this is a character development episode which allots quite a bit of screen real estate to one on one exposition. On a show like The Walking Dead I prefer less character episodes and more zombie flesh munching, but for science fiction shows such as Defiance I find they go a long way toward exploring contemporary issues. This was the bread and butter of genre legends Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica (2003), and I'm hopeful we're seeing the ground work of the same here.
In contrast to my comparison of Nolan to Mal Reynolds last week, it seems the character is more nuanced. Nolan is ready to ingratiate himself into the community of Defiance and settle down in a way that Mal never would have been able. Nolan may be less deeply scared by his battle history, or is able to recognize the promise of the town (and that it doesn't get much better). Irisa seems to have taken the nomadic virtues to heart. She's restless to move on to a better place,ポロラルフローレン, which in all likelihood does not exist. Perhaps in a weird way Nolan raised Irisa into the listless nomad he was and in doing so she helped him see the value of community. The trouble for him is going to come in her adjustment to staying put (if she does).
Defiance: Down in the Ground Where the Dead Men Go ReviewEverything old is new

The weakness of this episode springs from its inability to mount any kind of life or death tension. Though Ben has fled underground with explosives and rigged a nuclear blast which would destroy the town, there's never any sense of dangers or threat of failure on the part of our protagonists. We know they're going to win; they have to, as the titular town can't be wiped from the map only two episodes in. There's a subtle agreement we make with TV shows- we attempt to suspend our disbelief, and in exchange they play three card monte with our expectations. The show runners don't keep up their end of the bargain this week. There's a decided lack of palpable concern for the fates of these characters. If this were light hearted adventure ala Hercules the Legendary Journeys, then the tone would be understandable.
I am still not sold on the epically emotional cover of Nirvana's Come as you are. As it first dawned on me what I was hearing, I felt as though I'd been physically smacked in the face. As the scene continued I found it to work; exposure to it was wearing down my reservations. An aging man's sense of "is nothing sacred" still haunts my thoughts on this usage. How do you feel about it, fellow Maniacs?
Below the town of Defiance, Old St. Louis screams of the scenescapes last spied in Beneath The Planet of the Apes. The underground and intact portions of the former metropolitan city was largely unspoiled by the chaotic terraforming, leaving a nuclear power plant in working order. For the greater good it seems former Mayer Nicky needs this bastion of electricity detonated in a nuclear fire. There are hints at what she's trying to uncover or gain from this,Ralph Lauren シャツ, but nothing is solidly elaborated upon. Still, she's willing to kill all of the people she's known and governed for years to make this happen. It all feels so distant from the character drama though.

BloodLust / ラルフローレン バッグ Gravity
« on: October 30, 2013, 08:43:14 pm »
Such subtleties, however, matter less than the incredible ways Cuaron finds to yank our pounding hearts out of our chests. The barest whiff of contrivance lurks around the various hoops Kowalski and Stone have to jump through, but the film varies each one so carefully that you never notice. The real brilliance comes from pure camera movements. They take the breath away: not just the steady shots that helped Cuaron earn his reputation, but from more “mundane” shots that move and pivot within the action itself. They disorient us, but not in an unpleasant way. There was no motion sickness or dizziness at our screening,ラルフローレン バッグ, which was in IMAX 3D. (And that really is the only way to properly watch this film.) Just a sense of what this environment would be like, augmented by the absolute silence with which the threats come barreling at them
There’s a spiritual side to the tension, and some big questions are asked in surprisingly understated ways. Bullock, whose performance here I wouldn’t have thought possible before seeing it, serves as an incredible anchor. She has to hold almost every frame, and a sunny disposition can only take you so far when there’s nowhere to hide. Clooney coasts on his bottomless charm, but it’s pretty much The Sandy Show from beginning to end; the girl is more than up for the task.
                      Mania Review: GravityOne small step...

There’s a lot of comparisons being made to 2001, and they’re actually fairly apt. Gravity lacks the head-trip profundity of Kubrick’s masterpiece, but it clearly draws inspiration from the mixture of wonderment and fear at the grandeur of outer space. Sure, it’s basically a lot of stimulus response with only the quietest shades of something more to keep it from complete sterility. Then again, Kubrick was always a bit sterile himself,ラルフローレン スウェット, and Gravity knows just how to expand upon his revered bag of tricks. It’s been a terrific year for science fiction movies. This one stands with the very best of them: borne from a keen understanding of cinema’s possibilities and the creativity to put it to good use. Somewhere, Kubrick is smiling… as are Hitchcock, Welles and all those other masters whose ranks Cuaron is well on his way to joining.
Director Alfonso Cuaron doesn’t even have a real story here, just a concept to which he can attach an exercise in technique. An incredible, flawless,ラルフローレン 通販, irresistible, white-knuckle, pound-your-head-against-the-wall-like-a-gorilla-smashing- coconuts exercise in technique. In the opening shot (which lasts a good 20 minutes),プラダ トート, we learn everything we need to know about the characters,ラルフローレン シャツ, the situation and the goal. The rest of the film just points us at the buzzsaw and hits “go.” A seemingly ordinary space shuttle mission to add new software to the Hubble telescope gets exceptionally hairy in a great big hurry, leaving two survivors to figure out what happens next. Matt Kowalski (George Clooney) is the canny veteran with a chipper optimism that lets him see the circumstances clearly. His colleague Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is a one-time specialist, prone to motion sickness and about as nervous as the rest of us would be in a total vacuum with no apparent way home.
Ever wondered just how wrong things can go in outer space? Gravity has an answer, and we all owe NASA a huge debt of thanks for limiting it to the realm of fiction for so long. It’s too horrific to ignore and too stark not to carry the sense that this could really happen.
Like all great suspense films, Gravity finds an impressive number of variations on the same basic theme. Cuaron emphasizes our vulnerability in this deceptively calm environment: how one little twitch or circuitry misfire can send us screaming into an endless black chasm. His camera constantly reminds us how tiny we are in the face of the cosmos, and how the vaunted intelligence that got us up there can only do so much against the indifferent forces surrounding us.

Clan Recruitment / ラルフローレン 通販 DM
« on: October 30, 2013, 08:36:29 pm »
E :Why do you think 'Sparks' would translate to film/TV/animation?
Derek McCaw (DM): Set in 1948, 'Sparks' follows would-be masked vigilante Ian Sparks as he finds out that the price of being a hero is much too high, but destiny keeps tracking him down and demanding another payment. Not every mask can be a hero.
The Elevator doors open today on Derek McCaw, Editor of the new comic 'Sparks', published by William Katt's (yes! The 'Greatest American Hero'!) new shingle Catastrophic Comics,ラルフローレン 通販...

People can write to me, Derek McCaw at . I'll be handling questions, etc.,ラルフローレン シャツ, and forwarding things to William Katt, Chris and JM. We haven't firmed up our plans for San Diego yet, but we will be there in one form or another, possibly with another big announcement. In addition, I'll be representing Catastrophic Comics at Super-Con in San Jose and BayCon at the Santa Clara Convention Center, both in May.
E: How can folks learn more about you and your work?
ELEVATOR (E): Describe 'Sparks' in two sentences or less.
DM: 'Sparks' would translate really well to a film, because both writer Chris Folino and artist JM Ringuet think in very cinematic terms. It's always been in the back of Chris' head that this could make the jump to being a movie. Of course, the President of Catastrophic Comics,Rayban サングラス, William Katt, also has a few fingers in the film industry, and would like all of our titles to have some connection that way. That said, it's got a pretty identifiable lead, a colorful but restrained cast of characters in terms of special effects budget and a pretty gripping story. Ian Sparks does what a lot of comics fans think they would do if they gained a superpower -- puts on a costume and gets the crap beat out of him.
On one side: producers, directors and other Hollywood players looking for the next big thing.
On the other side are the comic book artists and writers creating the next big thing.
In between is...The Comics2Film Elevator.
Five simple questions. Five quick answers. Just enough to start the ball rolling as you ride from ground to roof,ラルフローレン サングラス.
Send your answers to the 5 Elevator Questions to  and we'll put the spotlight on your book in an upcoming installment of The Elevator
DM: What if 'Heroes' had been written by Raymond Chandler?
The Elevator: 'Sparks'  By                 April 10, 2008

E: How can folks find your comic?
DM: This week our website will go live -- .
Are you a comics creator with a book to pitch?
E : If you were to compare 'Sparks' to a movie or TV show what would it be?
DM: How can folks find your comic? We're listed in the April Previews, order #APR083679 to be released in June. And yes,レイバン 販売, we've already got the fourth issue in the can, so this thing is coming out regularly, hopefully to a retailer near you. But you've got to tell them you want it. You can also order Chris Folino's film 'Gamers' in the same Previews -- #APR085198.

Viz Media has put out its spring slate of anime DVD releases recently and it's not a surprise at all with lots of Bleach and Naruto making the list, since these are the money makers and they are airing on networks (though Bleach is getting a delay until late summer for new episodes). No surprises with these titles at all other than seeing a Naruto: Shippuden cover going against the grain with all the other ones. What is surprising is that Inu Yasha is getting put back out onto the market - DUB ONLY.

Genre Fiction in the '90s: Looking BackwardsA decade filled with blockbusters and movie-tie in novels.
By Denise Dumars                February 09, 2000

The 1990's were a curious time for imaginative fiction. In the '90s horror came back from the dead; fantasy produced a few diamonds amidst the general muck; and science fiction very nearly disappeared under the weight of media tie-in novels.
To get a perspective on just how lackluster the decade was in terms of fiction, let's compare it to the 1890's. The last decade of the previous century gave us such seminal works as Bram Stoker's DRACULA; H. G. Wells'THE TIME MACHINE, WAR OF THE WORLDS, and ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU; Robert Louis Stevenson's THE STRANGE CASE OF DR. JEKYLL & MR. HYDE AND OTHER FABLES; and the first science fiction stories of Jack London were also all published in that decade. By contrast, in the 1990s we had...tie-in novels! (To paraphrase Allen Ginsburg: I have seen the best minds in science fiction, fantasy, and horror squander their talent on tie-in novels.) No wonder SF authors John Kessel and Sheila Finch predicted the death of science fiction literature as early as 1996.
What's going on here? Why, for instance, have blockbusters like the works of Michael Crichton and Neal Stephenson been marketed as mainstream fiction instead of SF? ? Would a non-SF reader be prepared for the quantum physics in TIMELINE? Would the mundanes even understand the allusion in the title CRYPTONOMICON. (It's the year 2000, duh; maybe we're already living in the future, so science fiction is irrelevant.) So one trend of the '90s has already been established: books that are considered to be blockbusters or books by authors who have made a name for themselves in entertainment (such as Wes Craven, Mark Frost, and Stephen J. Cannell) are not marketed as genre fiction.
In the '80s, horror supposedly died. But anyone who's ever seen a horror movie knows that the monster is never really dead. And in the '90s, slowly but inexorably, horror came back, even as bookstores were cleaning out their horror sections and shelving everything in with general fiction. Stephen King gave up his S&M/spousal abuse tales for a moment and truly touched the hearts of his readers, in a way he had not done for many years, with THE GREEN MILE,プラダ トートバッグ, first published as a series of chapbooks. But it was the content of THE GREEN MILE, not its format, that proved King is indeed the modern equivalent of Charles Dickens. He followed THE GREEN MILE with other heart-felt books such as THE GIRL WHO LOVED TOM GORDON and HEARTS IN ATLANTIS.
King's sometime collaborator, Peter Straub, made a strong showing with the brutal but un-put-downable HELLFIRE CLUB and the cleverly Lovecraftian MR. X. If there's anyone we'll be still mentioning from the 1990s horror scene in 2090, along with the obligatory King, Koontz, Rice, and Barker, it will be Peter Straub.
Elizabeth Hand managed to bring atmosphere back to horror in her book WAKING THE MOON and the collection LAST SUMMER AT MARS HILL. It looked like the supernatural was back in horror, and the serial killers were largely, thankfully, given the decade off. RELIC and its sequel, RELIQUARY, by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, made us realize that we still love good old-fashioned monsters.
The '90s were a curious time for the top-seeded horror writers. Along with a slew of unreadable new vampire tomes, Anne Rice gave us her own paean to the loved dead with SERVANT OF THE BONES, her most readable book since INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE. Clive Barker mixed an animal rights message into his dark fantasy novel SACRAMENT. Thomas Harris kicked his fans in the gut with HANNIBAL, probably the most-anticipated sequel in horror novel history,レイバン 販売, and Dean Koontz was still writing in '80s-style serial killer mode.
Meanwhile, scholars like Michael Marano, with his first novel DAWN SONG, unearthed new horrors from our mythological heritage to help reinvent the genre, while the hardest working man in horror, Douglas Clegg, kept on plugging even as his hardcover debut, BAD KARMA,ラルフローレン シャツ, was published under the pseudonym Andrew Harper. Clegg followed up with THE HALLOWEEN MAN, another well-researched book that tweaked our collective cultural and religious mythology as well as Marano and Hand had done in their works.
Science fiction kept on plugging, behind the scenes perhaps,レイバン Wayfarer, but even in the midst of STAR WARS tie-in books there were important contributions made, if anyone was noticing. Bruce Sterling, the most humanistic of the cyberpunks, kept up his end of the genre with HOLY FIRE and the collection GLOBALHEAD. And Octavia Butler, the most literary and indeed, probably the most important science fiction writer alive today, contributed the dystopian PARABLE OF THE SOWER and its follow-up PARABLE OF THE TALENTS. She continued in dark, dystopian mode with her collection BLOODCHILD, which pegged her as one of the few SF writers who can write both jaw-dropping short fiction and novels.
Neal Stephenson, who burst onto the scene with the cyberpunky SNOWCRASH, made a huge impact with two, well, huge novels: steampunkish THE DIAMOND AGE and the near-mainstream code-breaker CRYPTONOMICON. Connie Willis wrote perhaps the best time-travel novel of the century with THE DOOMSDAY BOOK, and followed it up with TO SAY NOTHING OF THE DOG, a much-lauded but quite unfunny sequel meant, perhaps presumptuously, to also be a sequel to Jerome K. Jerome's THREE MEN IN A BOAT. THE DOOMSDAY BOOK foreshadowed TIMELINE, Michael Crichton's opus of time travel effected in the story though the means of quantum mechanics.
Fantasy limped along through endless clones of the thud-and-blunder school of bad magic, poor swordsmanship and even worse historical accuracy, until a children's book author named J. K. Rowling broke the mold with the HARRY POTTER novels, and breathed fresh life into the genre (even if her motifs of young witches and their dotty witch-school professors weren't exactly cutting-edge originals). But the true trendsetters of fantasy were authors like Neil Gaiman, who managed to take the tropes of fantasy and make them fresh and new in books like NEVERWHERE and STARDUST. And much to everyone's delight, Peter S. Beagle was writing again, garnering kudos for THE INNKEEPER'S SONG and THE UNICORN SONATA, which mixed his two great loves: fantasy and music.
Looking back over these lists it all seems a bit more hopeful. This is not--by any means--the end-all and be-all of recommendations from the '90s, but it's a start. Short fiction has always been the home of the best and the brightest of imaginative fiction, and throughout the '90s the biggest seller, off and on, in the short-fiction arena was the magazine REALMS OF FANTASY,ラルフローレン 通販, which gave us everything from standard sword-and-sorcery to vampire tales. Anthologies came back a bit toward the end of the decade, after languishing badly. But overall, short fiction held on by its fingernails, as the reading public more and more seemed unable to understand or appreciate the short story form. Anthologies tied in to role-playing games and suchlike took up much of the dedicated space on the shelves, even as tie-in novels took up novel space.
But surely some of the mid-listers mentioned in this article will go on into history along with the H. G. Wellses and Bram Stokers. And so will others who have slipped the mind of this reviewer. There's just so much stuff out there--some of it's bound to good, and a bit is surely to be great.
Maybe the 1990's weren't such bad years for genre fiction, after all.

Introductions / レイバン 店舗 Q
« on: October 30, 2013, 06:20:28 pm »
KS: I grew up watching science fiction with my dad. It was like our little secret. He would show me movies that I should not have been watching. I saw Predator when I was six. I knew from a young age that it wasn’t real, but I just loved it. We watched so much Star Trek; it was coming out of my ears by the time I was ten. I grew up idolizing these men. I love Arnold Schwarzenegger. I love Sly Stallone. I love Bruce Willis. These guys who embodied everything that action was in the 80s and 90s. So I told my dad that I wanted to be one of these guys, and I think he thought “Oh Lord.” Then he said, “I think we should watch Alien; don’t tell your mother.” I was probably, like, eight. I saw that and realized in that moment, “I don’t have to be one of those guys. I can be Sigourney Weaver!” And then Linda Hamilton came along and then Xena on a weekly basis and then Sarah Michelle Gellar. They were few and far between, but they were there. These strong women kept coming.
These guys knew I was a girl. They really treated me like their little sister,レイバン 店舗. Especially Matt Nable. He and I really developed this friendship. I think he gave the boys a talking to on the first day,Ralph Lauren シャツ. I think he gave his fatherly speech; he’s got three kids at home. And after that we were all like brothers and sisters.
Q: The movie reminded me of earlier science fiction movies, and some of the greater female science fiction stars of the 1980s. Did you draw inspiration from any of those earlier figures in your career?
KS: It’s a very rare moment in this business when someone actually hurts you. Usually it’s an actor accidentally punching the stunt double,レイバン Wayfarer, which happens quite a bit. In this movie, I was lucky enough to never really get roughed up by any of the guys. The moment I realized how small I actually was was when David Bautista picked me off the ground and I still wasn’t even at his pec yet. He was massive!
Katee Sackhoff: Yeah, I wander around my home in corsets all the time. [Laughter.] Seriously, I kind of do. I’m definitely a lot girlier than the roles I’m most known for. At the same time, I don’t think there’s anything wrong in this business with being typecast. I really don’t. I am lucky and blessed to have the job that I have. I’m looking for longevity in my career and I’ll transition into different roles as they come. I also believe that, if doors don’t open, you make new doors, so I’ve also start producing a lot of things as well. So maybe I’ll wear a corset at some point and do an English accent.
Question: Do you secretly dream of doing a Jane Austen period piece?
Q: How much of a challenge was this role, physically? Did you ever get hurt?
So I told Vin I wanted to put some weight on. Some real muscle and also some fat, 10-15 pounds. The opposite of what women in this business say. Vin said, “That’s great, come to Montreal like that. Just know that you’re going to own every inch of this character. You’re going to know her better than anybody. So if that’s what you want to do, do it… but really do it.” So got in shape and my arms were huge by the time we got there. And he said “Jesus Christ, you did it!”
KS: He’s amazing. He makes you feel like he’s known you for his entire life. He has this responsibility to this series of movies, and he makes you feel it. Riddick has owned a piece of his brain for a long,ラルフローレン 通販, long time. David Twohy told me that he wanted me to be ready on Day One… which meant I needed to look like I could beat up every one of these guys. Every one of them, even Dave Bautista. He’s like 6-foot-6. And every time they cast another guy, the guys just kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger.
Katee Sackhoff had a respectable but unremarkable career on television before being cast as Kara “Starbuck” Thrace in the reboot of Battlestar Galactica. Incensed at what they perceived as an unpardonable sin for reimagining the character as a girl, the Internet promptly freaked out. Then they saw how much Sackhoff kicked ass in the role,ラルフローレン シャツ, and the complaints dropped to a pathetic whimper. She’s since moved on to additional TV roles – a prominent part in 24, a starring role in Longmire – as well as co-starring with Vin Diesel in the upcoming Riddick. During the press day for the film, she opened up about the experience of shooting with Diesel, and about being a feminist sci-fi icon.

Mania Interview: Katee SackhoffFrom BSG to Riddick.

I was always inspired by Sigourney. She’s had such diversity in her career, it’s really amazing.
Q: How is Vin Diesel to work with?
He gives you a lot of that freedom: the freedom to make the character your own. David too. In the script, Dahl wasn’t this character. She wasn’t Boss Johns #2 in the script. Matt and I made that up on set. And then one day we were shooting a gun on set, and I thought, “Well maybe she’s the sniper.” David said, “If you want to be the sniper, she can be the sniper, but then you are married to that gun.” And that meant a lot of things. She should be able to grab ammo without looking. She should be able to use that gun and do whatever she needed to do without taking her eye off of the target. It took a week of solid work just to figure out how to do all of that in one short little scene. To do all that while keeping my eyes down the scope. In the process, I realized that I was left-eye dominant, which means that I should be shooting with my left hand. We couldn’t do that on the film, but I went out afterwards and tested it. I’m ten times more accurate with my left eye, even though I’m right handed. It’s weird and yet it’s exhilarating at the same time. I loved that. I loved working with Vin and David, and the way they get things done.
